Setup WATI Account
Connect your WATI WhatsApp Business API to Fiko so your team can manage WhatsApp conversations alongside other channels in one unified workspace.
Overview
The WATI integration lets you receive and reply to WhatsApp messages right from your Fiko dashboard. Fiko handles secure webhook verification, message routing, and session/template messaging rules so your agents can focus on conversations.
What you'll achieve
- Link your WATI WhatsApp Business API to Fiko
- Enable secure webhook delivery with signature checks
- Process inbound and outbound messages in real time
- Support session and template (HSM) messaging flows
- Unify WhatsApp with your other support channels
About WATI
WATI (WhatsApp Team Inbox) provides WhatsApp Business API connectivity, team inbox tooling, and automation features. You'll need an active WATI workspace, a WhatsApp Business number, and API access enabled.
Setup Process
You'll create a WATI account and workspace, connect your WhatsApp Business number, configure API credentials and webhook settings, then plug those into Fiko.
Create WATI Account
After sign-up, WATI lands you on the Quick start screen at app.wati.io/quickstart. From there, click Connect number to start WhatsApp onboarding.
- You'll be redirected to
live.wati.iowhere the wizard begins - Click Connect to launch Meta's Embedded Signup flow
WATI may not prompt for additional workspace details at this stage — that's normal. The WhatsApp setup happens first through Meta's flow.
Set Up WhatsApp Business API
The Meta Embedded Signup opens in a dialog. Follow the steps to connect your number and create a WhatsApp Business profile.
Embedded Signup steps
- Log in with the Meta Business Manager admin account
- Select or create your Business portfolio and business details
- Select or create the WhatsApp Business account and profile (display name, category)
- Choose how to add a WhatsApp phone number: add a new number or use a display-name-only option while Meta reviews your business
- Review and grant permissions requested by WATI's Embedded Signup
Migration note: Numbers already used in WhatsApp or WA Business app must be unlinked first. Existing chat history does not migrate to the Business API.
Configure API & Webhook Settings
Fiko needs three values from your WATI workspace. Have these ready before opening the Fiko wizard.
Required fields
WATI Access Token— used to authenticate API requestsWATI API Endpoint— your base API URL (copy exactly as shown by WATI)WhatsApp Phone Number— E.164 format, e.g.919876543210
Where to find them in WATI
- Open API Docs in the WATI top nav. The Access Token is shown as
Bearer <token>— copy the full value includingBearer - The API Endpoint is a base URL like
https://live-mt-server.wati.io/<tenantId> - Your phone number is visible in the top-right header near the "CONNECTED" indicator — use E.164 format without the plus sign
Security: Treat the Access Token like a password. Don't share or commit it. Fiko stores it encrypted per channel.
Add Account to Fiko
Run the Fiko integration wizard and paste the credentials collected in the previous step.
Webhook Configuration
After entering your credentials, Fiko generates a Webhook URL. Copy it and configure it in WATI:
- Open your WATI workspace → More → Webhooks → Add Webhook
- Paste the Fiko webhook URL into the URL field
- Set Status to Enabled
- Select events: Message Received, New Contact Message, Session Message Sent v2, Template Message Sent v2, Sent Message is DELIVERED v2, Sent Message is READ v2, Sent Message is REPLIED v2
- Save
Complete Integration
Finish by saving the webhook in WATI and sending yourself a message to verify the end-to-end flow into Fiko.
Test Your Integration
- Send a message to your WhatsApp Business number
- Confirm it appears in Fiko
- Reply from Fiko and verify delivery/read status
24-hour session window: Free-form replies are allowed only within 24 hours of the user's last message. Outside that window, use pre-approved templates (HSMs) via your WATI account.
Security Features
- Scoped, encrypted credential storage
- Webhook URL is unique per channel
- Role-based access to channel settings
- Audit logs for configuration changes
Troubleshooting
Webhook not firing
Re-check the callback URL in WATI and make sure message and status events are enabled.
401 / 403 errors
Verify the Access Token and confirm the API Endpoint is correct for your workspace.
Messages not appearing in Fiko
Inspect Fiko channel logs and verify your phone number format (E.164 with country code).
