Install the App & Notifications
Fiko can be installed as an app on your phone or computer, and it can notify you of a new customer message while Fiko is closed or in the background. On a narrow screen, Fiko switches to a layout built around your conversations.
Installable app
Install Fiko from your browser. It opens in its own window and starts on Chats.
Push notifications
Get alerted when customers message you, even when Fiko is in the background.
Mobile layout
On screens up to 768 pixels wide, Fiko shows a bottom navigation and full-screen chats.
Install Fiko as an App
Fiko is an installable web app named Fiko ("AI customer service inbox"). You install it from your browser; nothing is downloaded from an app store.
Open Fiko and sign in
Open Fiko in your browser on the phone or computer you want to install it on, and sign in.
Use your browser's install option
Fiko has no install button of its own. Use the option your browser offers to install a site as an app, for example Add to Home Screen or Install. The exact name and location depend on your browser.
Open Fiko from its icon
Fiko opens in its own window, without the browser's usual page controls, and starts on the Chats page.
If you are offline: when Fiko cannot reach the network, it shows a screen titled "You're offline" with the text "Check your internet connection. Fiko will reload when you are back online." and a Try again button. Fiko reloads by itself when your connection returns. The app keeps only this screen for offline use — not your chats or other pages.
The Notification Prompt
After you sign in, if your browser has not yet been asked about notifications for Fiko, a dialog titled Turn on notifications appears. It says "Get alerted when customers message you, even when Fiko is in the background." and has two buttons: Allow notifications and Not now.
- Allow notifications: your browser shows its own permission request. If you allow it, Fiko shows "Notifications are on" and registers that browser to receive push notifications. If you block it, Fiko shows "Notifications are blocked. You can enable them in your browser settings."
- Not now: closes the dialog. It does not come back during the same browser tab session, but it can appear again the next time you open Fiko while the browser still has no answer from you.
- The dialog does not appear if you have already allowed or blocked notifications for Fiko, or if your browser does not support notifications.
Push Notifications for New Messages
Once your browser is allowed to notify you, Fiko can send a push notification to it when a customer messages you, even when Fiko is in the background. This works in a normal browser tab as well as in the installed app.
When you get one
- A customer sends a new message in a chat you can view — a chat assigned to one of your groups, or one you have been given permission to view
- You are Offline: you have no open connection to Fiko, for example the tab or app is closed. You are not sent a push while you are connected
- The message is from the customer. Messages sent by your team or by the AI, and messages in blocked chats, do not send a push
- No Fiko window is in focus on your device. If Fiko is the window you are looking at, no push is shown
What it shows
- Title: the customer's name, or "New message" when there is no name
- Text: the beginning of the message, cut at 120 characters. A message that is not text shows "Sent an attachment"
- Icon: the Fiko icon
- A new message in the same chat replaces the earlier notification for that chat instead of stacking
Clicking the notification brings Fiko to the front and opens that chat, or opens Fiko on that chat if it was closed.
Turning It On and Off
On
Click Allow notifications in the prompt. You can also go to Settings → Notifications → Message Notifications and use the Allow notifications button in the Browser Notifications card, which shows while your browser has not been asked yet. A badge in the card shows the current state: Allowed, Blocked, Not set or Unsupported. Each browser or installed app you allow is registered separately, so you can be notified on several devices.
Off
Signing out of Fiko removes that browser's push registration, so it stops receiving notifications until you sign in again with notifications still allowed. Signing in again registers it again.
The Enable browser notifications switch
The Enable browser notifications switch in the same card is separate. It controls the alert Fiko shows for a new message while Fiko is open in a tab you are not looking at. It does not turn push notifications on or off. The switch is available once notifications are allowed, and while it is on a Test notification button shows a sample alert.
The Notifications entry in the Settings menu is shown to the Admin and Viewer roles. The notification prompt appears for every signed-in user.
Push Notifications in the Fiko Mobile App
If you use the Fiko mobile app, it registers your phone for push notifications separately from the web.
- After you sign in and reach your chat list on a physical device, the app asks for notification permission if it has not been given yet. If you allow it, the device is registered for push notifications
- You receive a push when a new message arrives in a chat you can view while you are Offline, that is, not connected to Fiko
- The title is the customer's name and your company's name, for example "Alice · Acme Co", so you can tell which company a message is for if you work for several. If one of the two is missing, the other is shown alone; if both are missing, the title is "New message"
- The text is the message. If there is none, it reads "You have a new message"
- Tapping the notification opens that chat. If it belongs to a different company than the one you have open, the app switches to that company first
- Signing out of the app removes the device, so it stops receiving pushes
The Mobile Layout
Fiko switches to the mobile layout whenever the window is 768 pixels wide or narrower. It depends on the width of the window, not on whether Fiko is installed, so the same layout appears in a narrow browser window.
Bottom navigation
The bottom bar has four tabs:
- Chats
- Contacts
- Dashboard
- More
When the Unattended Chat Reminder is on and chats are waiting, the Chats tab shows a count badge. A top bar holds the company switcher, the notification bell and your user menu.
The More sheet
More opens a sheet from the bottom of the screen with:
- Team, Notifications and Support (Support opens this documentation in a new tab)
- More tools, collapsed by default and labelled "Best on a larger screen": Automations, AI Agent, Knowledge Hub, Broadcasts, Analytics, Apps and Integrations, Billing and Settings
- Items your role cannot access are not shown
Chats on a small screen
- The conversation list fills the screen. Its header has a menu button, a search button, an Unreplied switch and a filter button
- The menu button opens a side sheet with the same chat folders and tag filters as the navigation panel on a larger screen
- Tap a chat to open it full screen. The back arrow (Back to chats), or your phone's or browser's Back, returns to the list
- Tap the customer's name in the conversation header to open the Customer Profile as a side sheet
- The three-dot menu (More actions) has Customer Profile and Close. Close is not shown to the Viewer role
- While a conversation is open, the top bar and the bottom navigation are hidden
Troubleshooting
I do not see the notification prompt?
- The prompt only appears when your browser has not yet been asked. If you have already allowed or blocked notifications for Fiko, it does not appear
- If you chose Not now, it stays hidden until the next browser tab session
- Some browsers do not support notifications at all. In Settings → Notifications → Message Notifications, the Browser Notifications card then shows "Unsupported"
The Browser Notifications card says Blocked?
- Fiko shows "Notifications blocked. Enable in browser settings." Allow notifications for Fiko in your browser's site settings
- Open Fiko again afterwards. Each time Fiko opens with notifications allowed, it registers the browser for push notifications again
I did not get a notification for a new message?
- Push notifications are only sent while you are Offline. If Fiko is open and connected, you get the in-app alert instead
- You must be able to view the chat — it is assigned to one of your groups, or you have been given permission to view it
- Messages from your team or the AI, and messages in blocked chats, do not send a push
- Open Fiko once with notifications allowed so the browser is registered. Fiko only accepts registrations from the push services of Google, Mozilla, Apple and Microsoft
I was signed out on one device after signing in on another?
- Fiko allows one mobile and one desktop session per user. Signing in on a second device of the same type signs out the first. See Agent Management for details
Your Offline status is set automatically when you lose your connection to Fiko. See Agent Management for availability statuses and for how many sessions you can have signed in at once.
